Ken Martin is an up and coming Philly musician who’s finding his niche on the country scene, however, Ken's eclectic musical influences inspire him to venture into any musical genre that captures his attention. The youngest in a family of thirteen, Ken was influenced by whichever genre of music his older siblings would play, whether on an instrument or through a stereo. Among the genres he absorbed were genres like pop, rock, hard rock, rock and roll, grunge, reggae, rap, country, classical, big band jazz, blues, bluegrass, and of course, some good old fashioned Disney musicals.
Ken plays a host of musical instruments which includes the guitar, piano, trumpet, violin, viola, harmonica, and bass guitar, and he is the sole musical contributor on all of his self-recorded and self-produced musical releases. Having officially started writing, recording, and producing his own music at 13 years old, Ken Martin has been freelance producing his original music for 20 years, though his connection to music reaches even further back into his early childhood.
While Ken's solo performances can bring down the house, he doesn't shy away from collaborative projects. Ken is part of the musical trio, The Players, in which he is the lead vocalist, guitarist, and pianist. Playing with the effortlessly talented conguero, Edwin “Dice” Centena, and master class drummer, Kevin Travers, founder of D.W.A. (Drummers With Attitude), Ken recently opened for the late musical icon, Jill Sobule. The trio has also opened for the country alt group, The Minors and have been featured on Rock on Radio Station, hosted by Danny Coleman.
Ken's music is bold, unique, and progressive , yet his style and presentation is reminiscent of an older generation. A creative lyricist as well, Ken blends passionate storytelling and life experiences together to compose musical experiences that will definitely make you think, as all great art should. With such range in terms of musical versatility, who knows what musical act Ken will pull out of his hat next?
“As an altruist, I experience profound bliss and happiness when I see others experience pure, innocent joy."
